Reaper's rifle is arguably one of the most important props of the entire movie and along with the BFG was easily the most important weapon in Doom. Based on the G36C assault rifle, the hero and stunt pieces were fabricated by Andre Masters under contract from Richard Hooper.
This weapon was used by Karl Urban as John 'Reaper' Grimm in the latter half of the Doom movie. The shroud is the third to be made for the movie indicated by markings inside, though the butt's hard polyurethane foam/resin construction marks it as coming from the original 'hero' rifle prototype (unlike the others, which are all cast rubber).
The heavy blast marks from the heat generated by the rifle inside the shroud show this to have been a live-fire example. This is confirmed by screen matches to the scenes in the Dig, during the shooting of The Kid, the First Person Shooter Sequence and the final fight with Sarge.
The weapon is made up of 5 seperate assemblies:
The buttstock, made of either rubber or in the instance of this example, hard polyurethane foam/resin mix, which replaces the original G36C folding stock.
The G36C rifle, which has a double-optic carry handle and its flash hider removed, replaced by a steel barrel extension. Its magazine has side covers added to change its appearance, and the pistol grip has a rubber 'fingerprint reader' stuck to it.
The side pieces, made of aluminium and fitted with full electronics to activate the lights and display panel, which were powered by a 9V battery.
The fore-end assembly, which is made of milled aluminium with an internal frame that fits around the G36. Inside this is a Surefire Millennium M3 tactical light with a remote pressure switch.
The top cover, held onto the rifle by five M3 screws (two either side and one on the top), which shields the operator from the head of the rifle's discharge and also hides the power source for the light-up panels. Attached to this component is the front sling loop.
The rifle assemblies fit over a completely unmodified G36C with no trouble at all. It is a very easy rifle shroud to fit, maintain and replace. The total weight of the rifle with the full shroud fitted is a whopping 6KG (15lb), primarily due to the milled torch grip fore-end, which adds a very large amount of weight in comparison to the Duke/Portman rifle's folded aluminium fore end piece. No wonder the actors noticed a difference when they had to use these instead of Czech AKs after their boot camp!
